The Magic Box

I will put in my box poem.

I will put into my box,
Rushing water from the Waimakariri river,
A ball that goes into a basket,
The growling lava of a Volcano,
I will put into my box,
A Dreamless Dream that is a reality,
The leaves of a silver fern,
The glow of the full moon at night,

I will put into my box,
The biggest pounamu stone in the whole of Aotearoa,
The best smelling chips in the whole world,
The sound of waves crashing on the beach like a Metal door closing,

I will put into my box,
The sweetest lollie in the world,
The fastest Porsche Carrera that is as fast as a jet,
A Broken Bike Brake,

My Box is fashioned from polished timber that has been glued together to make a wonderful glow, it has model cars on the lid and can sit anyway you want it.

I shall drive in my box

The fastest car in the world, along the world's longest race track for all eternity, to get faster and faster every time.

My A&P Show Presentation

Last week Rimu got given a task to create the '2018 A&P show'. It was as if we were the organisers of it for next year. The activities I completed in order were History, Photo Book, Recount and a marketing campaign.
Here is my work that I have don. I have included links.

My A&P Recount and Photo Story

First of all  we drove to the A&P show. My mum Shukoor, Zach,  Isaac and me  walked over to the food tent and we went through trying different foods and sauces. We met an awesome guy called the saucerer who gave us three different sauces to try. They went from sweet to a little hot to very hot. But they were all nice. When we finished he gave us his business card (which happened to be sauce). Then we tried some other foods and sauces and we left the food tent.

Next we went to see the dirt bikes.  We could hear them from a very long way away. They were as loud as a lion roaring.  It turns out that the majority of them were 2 strokes, so that’s why they were so loud!  After we looked at the dirt bikes, we moved on and we saw Ling and Zing from the block, we got a photo with them. After that we went and played the More FM mini golf. We got a pack of chips at the end. Then we headed to the horse track to meet with the other groups and ate lunch.

After that, we went and looked at the animals. There were Horses that were as tall as trees, Cows, Sheep, Roosters and Chickens. When we finished with the animals, we went and watched the wood chopping. It was super cool. After a couple of events they were taking a 10 minute break to set things up so we went and and looked for snow cones. We finally found a snow cone stall we ordered our cones and headed back to the wood chopping, watched the doubles and then went home. It was a really fun day.

The Rain Maker

Yesterday Rimu had the task of writing a Narrative story. We continued the story from a short film that we were watching ( the video down below ). The story was about the sea had dried up and a girl made a powder to make water when she found a cloud. We had to make a beginning, a middle and a end. The process I went through was: watching a section of the movie, planning, writing, proofreading, editing, and finally putting it on my blog. I hope that you like my story and remember to give my feedback please!

 The RainMaker
This is what used to be an ocean, now it is a big yellow desert. Maybe if you looked to your left you would see and aircraft carrier, and if you looked to your right you would see a submarine. Anyway I am here to restore the water to the sea. I have made a rain maker machine to help restore the water, but I need a cloud. So here I am, flying in a plane, looking for clouds.

I am flying around, searching for any signal of a cloud in the sky. I think that there is no hope and that I should stop what I am doing and quit. Then something catches my eye. The lighthouse is flashing, I follow the light gaze. I see it, a cloud. Wide awake, I get my machine ready to use and I head straight for the cloud.

Now I am almost at the cloud. My machine is ready. I fly through the cloud and deploy my machine. To my amazement, it works! The cloud expands and then it starts raining. What an amazing sight! After a while there is water covering the ground in the soon to be ocean. 1 week later the water in the sea is full, the boats are floating, and the rain cloud is receding. 5 years after this it seems like it never happened, everything is normal.

E-asttle Writing for term 3

This is my E-asttle writing for term 3. I think that I did really well in the time that I had. I based the story like there was a news reporter in the room who was talking to these 3 guys.
I hope that you enjoy my writing!

Ahh the forest, such a happy place, well at least we thought that. ‘This is our gang, Tim, Zach and Cayde’. ‘We are monster hunters’. ‘Have you ever seen that tv show where people hunt monsters’? ‘Well that is us’! ‘We have to change our names though for the show’. ‘But getting back to the point, this is the story of how scared we were and excited we were about going to this forest’.

‘It started like this: There was a complaint about something eating this guys chickens, so we decided to check it out. Tim drove us to the forest, (he is a really good driver), and we hopped out, well  ya know, like most people would if they were excited about going to an unknown forest’. ‘As soon as we got out fog started to surround us and everything started to get damp’.

‘It felt weird it was like something knew we where here and it wanted us’. ‘Zach being zach, was always excited about hunts when we discussed it at home but as soon as he got out of the truck, he was always talking about how he wanted to go home, and how this was such a bad idea’.

‘We started to walk into the forest’. ‘There was lots of loud creaking in the forest’. ‘So much at one point it made our camera man kyle jump and almost drop his camera’! ‘The night came over quick, and now we had split up and were lying in twigs or in Tim’s case, behind an old abandoned lodge’.

‘Then we heard something’. ‘Crunch, crunch, crunch’. ‘Something was definitely moving out there’. ‘There was a howl, then a groan’. ‘Zac had set traps before the sun went down’. ‘We heard a gate crash, then an angry bark, then whimpering’. ‘This was our chance’. ‘We all raced to the trap’.  ‘There was something in there’. ‘ I turned on my torch’.

‘Hey what’s this doing out here’!? ‘We had caught a pitbull’. ‘It was a little bit on the skinny side but it was healthy’. ‘Luckily Zach had brought a dog lead, and a collar, so we were set to get the dog out’. ‘I opened the cage and the dog stepped out and the dog jumped up at us’!

‘But unexpectedly it started licking our faces’. ‘We let it down and put the collar and lead on it’. ‘We walked back to the truck with the dog, went back to the house, fed the dog, and then went to sleep for the night’. ‘We then woke up and came here to tell you our story’. ‘Thankyou’.

Cybersmart today is about...

Netiquette! Netiquette means internet etiquette.  So instead of opening doors for people, you are to be nice to every single person on the net. You never swear or talk disrespectfully online because you could get banned from whatever you are on or something could happen to you along those lines.
Here is a mindmup about the do's and dont's of Netiquette.

Student Toolkit

Yesterday (Wednesday) there was a student toolkit being placed at Hornby Primary School. Yaldhurst was invited to this toolkit. My group made a slideshow about how to make a ScreenCastify. When we presented it, it felt weird. We were a little shy but we got through it. I wish that we made our slide a little longer and we spoke more clearly. Other than that it was a good day and I would like to do it next time. Here is our slide:

My Speech: Riverwater and Water Pollution

This is my speech. It is about riverwater and the water pollution. It was a fun speech to write and I wish I had wrote a little more. But it was awesome! Here is my speech.

Hi I am Cayde. I am here today to tell you about river water and water pollution. Before I start I just want you to think. What do you think about Christchurch’s rivers? Do they have good or bad water quality? Usually, the first river that comes to your head is the Waimakariri.

It is Canterbury's most well known river. It is the freshest of fresh rivers. The water is clear and the fish taste good, (But that is if you manage to get one). There is almost no boat pollution because the water flows really fast and the sand filters clean it out. I would easily have a swim in this river. But what about the next river?

The selwyn river. That river is almost the complete opposite to the Waimakariri. The water is not very clear in most of it, not all parts of this river are bad but it has a reputation for having bad water quality. There is algae growing in the river, and I definitely wouldn’t want to eat the fish from that river. Plus the river has being slowly drying up for ages now.

According to Stuff.co.nz with the high E.coli levels and toxic algae warnings, it is tough to find a safe spot to have a swim in the Selwyn river. They also said that the water quality grading of the Selwyn River at the Selwyn Huts has been very poor for years. That is pretty bad. C’mon guys I think we can do better.

There has been some talk of making canals from the waimakariri to the selwyn river. I think that that is a good idea. Because the river would have a flow and then the water quality would be much better meaning that I might just consider eating the fish from it. And maybe swimming will be an option. But there is still the job of removing the algae. It Should be fine.

I think it would be worth it because; well first  it would obviously stop the complaining from the locals. I mean jeez give the government a break, they deal with enough already. And I think that getting the selwyn river right will cost less to do then all of those Auckland things that they are doing. But hey, If we want to swim in the river, Improve the environment and catch some good fish, I think it’s money well spent. Thank you.

William Pike

A few days ago William Pike came to visit our class for the second time. He Was climbing Mt Ruapehu about 10 years ago. It erupted while he was there, causing 60 olympic sized swimming pools worth of rock and debris to come crashing down onto the mountain. Unfortunately he and his friend were sleeping in that hut at the same time. Their hut basically got demolished by the rock and a rock landed on William's leg crushing it.

He had to get his right leg amputated. If he didn't get it amputated he would have died. But he survived! That hasn't stopped him living life to the fullest and he still want to climb to the top of the mountain. He hasn't succeeded yet but everytime he is getting further and further up. He has created the William Pike Challenge Award which our classes year seven and eights are involved in. I am excited to do this challenge and hopefully at high school we do something similar.

At first he did a lesson with us about the Greek language and how there sounds for the letters, sound like ours. Photos are down below.

My Dream Timetable

A couple weeks ago Rimu made our dream timetables. It was a cool subject to do. Me and Tim made a timetable together. Here it our video that we made.

Children and Young Adults Book Awards

Today our whole class went to the children and young adults book awards. It was at the St Margaret's College Auditorium. It was a good day and we got to see 6 New Zealand book writers, all of which are finalists in the NZ Book Awards.

The first Author was Tania Roxborough. She lives in Lincoln and she works at lincoln High as a english teacher. She is a children’s writer. One book that i know was 15 minute Shakespeare. Some of her books include Limelight, Space Gum and Banquo’s Son. She has written a 25 books.

My Favorite person was Des Hunt. He is a well respected educationalist who has written a series of environmental adventures. He used to be a teacher but now he just writes stores. Sunken Forest is his book. It is based 60 years ago. It is based on him when he was 13 years. He went to a Summer Camp and Lake Waikaremoana. It is a great walk of NZ (I would like to walk it). The lake itself was formed by an earthquake and so there is sunken forest. There is also eels that come out of the water. They are trapped there, so they come by people bringing them there. He led us through the process he went through and included a balloon to demonstrate tension. It was a good time watching him. He was very funny.

Rugby Zones

Yesterday the Yaldhurst Rugby and Netball teams went to zones. We teamed up with Weedons School and our team had to wear their T-Shirts. It was a good day but closer to the end it started to rain. I wasn't playing though because I broke my toe. Our team did good and we only lost to the Rolleston A team (They never lost a game). I was impressed with the effort my team put in because we came second in the whole tournament so we have a good chance of going to zones.
Thankyou to the teachers and parents who took time out of there day to come and Support us.

My School Holidays

My School holidays that have just been, was really fun, (except from the end). Well at the start I went motorbiking which was the only time I went motorbiking the whole holidays. There was a weird hill where I was motorbiking. It went one and a bit meters up then it went almost straight down (it almost made me fall off). But That was a fun day.

Closer to the end of the holidays I was running into the house, slipped a bit and managed to break my toe. I spent 2 hours in the pegasus after hours. It was a long 2 hours too. in the end it was broken and I have to miss rugby for 3-4 weeks.

This is the temprature that the tank should vary around.

E-asTTle Writing Test

This is my E-asTTle Writing Test for the term. It is a narrative story. About half of it is true and . the other half false. I like this story because it is based on my favorite place in the world and that I had fun writing it. Here is my story:

I am almost there! I can’t wait, I am almost at the place I love the most. This place has the best views for miles and there is almost no one around because it is boat only access. This place is our family bach, for me it is the best place in the world. Happily, we got to the wharf (I was so excited that I was the first one to get off). I was back!

We got to the bach and unloaded the Moo (which is the nickname of 4 wheel drive truck that we had put up there a few years ago). After that had happened I went out into the bay in  the kayaks. It was really fun. I saw sharks and even some stingrays! When I got back we went out fishing. We were out for a few hours. Then I heard a whisper saying: come back something has happened. I looked around but no one was there except my family.  I said to my dad that we better get back to the bay because I think something has happened.

When we got to the bay we could see what had happened. The boat had suddenly been hung up to the wharf and only a little of it was in the water the rest of it was dangling in the air. The owners of a fancy bach was waiting there. They said that if we cut it the back of the boat would be snapped off. Then I remembered the whisper. I wondered how I heard it and how it was right. I was standing still in terror trying to figure out why it happened. I was really scared.

But hope was still alive for the boat because we had put a rope around a pole and then my uncle put the throttle almost all the way down on his boat, tugging at the opposite end of the boat and then  my dad cut the rope. It had worked! The boat was fine. It only had a bent pole and hook but it was alright and that was the main thing.

Later that night we put the boat out to sea to a mooring and swam back to shore. We walked back to the bach and looked out to the bay. The sunset view was amazing. I could not get over it. I went to sleep and had an awesome dream...

Maths DLO

This term me and Tim have been doing our maths DLO (Digital Learning Object). It has been hard because the walls kept on falling down. We had to redo it about 3 times because of mistakes that had happened hence why this one is not finished. But it was a fun project and I think that it helped me with my measuring skills and it made them more better.
I hope that you like my video.

Friday Sport

This term was the start of year 5,6,7,8 friday sport. So far my football team has not lost any of our 3 games which is good. Last game we won 12-2 with only 6 people. So this year we have a good squad and I think we are going to do well.
Here are some photos of our team.

Adding 8+7

This is a Screencastify on how to add up 15. It is a really simple way of adding it up to 15. i was using block to sum it up, the way that you learnt to do it when you were younger. It was just a quick Screencastify and it was not my best. I hope to get better at Screencastify by the end of the year.
Thank you for viewing my post.

NYLD (National Young Leaders Day)

On Tuesday the Student Council and Shukoor went to NYLD. It was a very fun day because it exceeded my expectations. They had a band that started in Christchurch. They were NoMad. They did some barber singing and sung Oh My My which I didn't know was there song. I really liked the NYLD and I would like to go next time but I can't because I will be a year 9. This will definitely be one of my highlights for the year.

Fidget Spinners

Fidget Spinners are taking the world by storm. Fidget spinners were designed to help people with autism and ADHD Concentrate. But now everyone wants one including me because that is my fidget spinner in the above photo. They have many designs and ways that people can DIY (Do It Yourself) them. All you need is a bearing and something heavy to glue on the edges like coins and bolts/nuts.
They are also not very expensive, you can get them for as low as 1.50 NZD on Aliexpress.

Who Views My Blog?

Who views my school blog? Today with mark our class did a study on who views our blog. The answers were quite interesting. We looked on our world maps and put data into PiktoChart and it made tallies and pie charts that we used as shown down in the post. I hope that you like my post.

Cross Country training

This week our class has started to do cross country training. We have started by doing 2 laps of our schools big and small fields. For cross country the year 8's have to run 3.1km so it is a fair way. I think that with the training our class will succeed this year at cross country.

Term Reflect

This term was a good term. We had a few class trips like sailing and low rope-high ropes and a few in school suprises like Jamie Duff coming to school. I really liked this term and I can’t wait for next term.

One highlight for me would probably the sailing because it was new to me and I thought that I did a good job at it.
Another highlight would probably be the Student Council forum at rawhiti school. Almost every time I go anywhere out of school I break a bone or do something along the lines of that. At rawhiti they had a new bike track. The bike where new but some of the chains where loose. I was on a bike where the chain was loose and  my leg absolutely smashed the frame of the bike when the chain was coming off. It hurt really bad!
Image result for thumbs up
So overall I think that this term was really good and I can’t wait for next term.

Second WPCA Challenge

For our second WPCA Challenge we went to the groynes and did some low ropes and high ropes.

This is our lily pad challenge. If we let go of the lily pad we lost it. This is an example of me and Shukoor losing one of our teams lily pads.

We had a triangle challenge and we had to walk along the ropes for one rotation and complete it

Just us helping the people who were climbing.

Overall I think that the day was good and I liked it alot.
